The Kendal Story
15th October 2011 - 20th January 2012THE KENDAL STORY charts the history of Kendal from prehistoric beginnings through to the end of the 20th century, and tells the story of its industries, markets, buildings and people. The exhibition uses text, pictures, models and objects from the museum collection to illustrate the development of "The Auld Grey Town" through the centuries, showing the colourful ingredients that have made Kendal what it is today.
The Kendal Story draws together all aspects of the town's life, including the granting of its charters and markets, the importance of the wool industry, the history of Kendal Castle, and the influence of the Quakers. It shows how the town's inhabitants fared in times of prosperity, plague, and war, and what life was like in Kendal's famous yards.
