Make the museum your classroom
Give us a call to check museum availability and make the museum your learning space for the delivery of the whole curriculum. So long as you lead your own sessions, and let us know when you are coming, the museum is here for your class free of charge.

One school has already successfully used the museum in this way. Inspired by the Government’s ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’ manifesto, which encourages a more stimulating approach to learning, the head teacher of Dean Barwick Primary School, Linda Graves, took up the museum on the offer, feeling that the museum was the perfect way for children to study numeracy and literacy in a creative way.Mrs Graves and her staff brought the school every Thursday morning for a term.
And what was the result? An Ofsted report which described their creative curriculum as ‘outstanding’ and children who described learning as ‘fun’.
If you would like to book time for your class or have a lead on how to get

A Free Outreach Workshop at your School
‘Building Britain’ is a free Key Stage 2 workshop on nineteenth century Britain, delivered by museum staff at your school.
This workshop is provided through a Kendal Museum, Community Arts Forum, Kendal Civic Society and South Lakeland District Council collaboration and is funded by the Heritage Lottery.

Inspired by the research and renovation of an industrial limekiln in Kendal this workshop combines the study of, and skills related to, literacy, maths, science, geography, history and art.
A free teachers’ pack created by the Kendal Civic Society accompanies the workshop and the pack alone is available on request from Kendal Museum or the Civic Society.
