Education Services at Kendal Museum

We have a free coach/car park. We can provide somewhere for pupils to eat their lunch, but please check for availability..

Become a Museum School

Free use of the museum on a regular basis is available to deliver a broad curriculum. Please contact our Education Officer Anna Hall.

 

Workshops (see below for charges)

Building Britain

  • This is a workshop that is a collaboration between Kendal Museum and Community Arts Forum supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund project at Greenside Limekiln in Kendal.
  • It is a study of 19th century Kendal combining local history, geography, maths, science, literacy and art.
  • Particularly suitable for Key Stage 2.

Art

  • Wildlife Art: Workshops can be tailored to schools’ individual needs.
    A workshop is for a ‘class’ of about 30 pupils. Please ensure there is at least 1 adult for 10 children. The class will be split during the workshop.

60 minute workshops developed from the longer museum visit workshop. 
Also studies can be made of Geology, British Wildlife and ‘Your Own Museum’.

GCSE & A Level Visits

Art 

  • Workshops led by award winning Nature Artist Marianne Birkby. We also have a large collection including preserved animals, rocks and artefacts from Prehistoric, Egyptian and Roman civilisations.
  • Pre-booked visits, led by the school, are free of charge.
  • Individual students are welcome, free of charge. If material from the store is required please contact the curator and book the visit.

Science

  • Pre-booked displays can be arranged on the classification in taxonomy
    or on geology.
  • Self-led visits by the class teacher are free of charge. For any display tailored from our collection to the needs of your class please contact us.

Any students interested in finding out about a career in museums or archaeology are welcome and, by arrangement, can visit our stores and chat with our curators.

Loan Exhibition (Free)

The ‘Amazing Universe’ exhibition and its linked exhibition ‘Seeker in
the Universe’ are available to be borrowed by schools. There are
pictures to handle, or to display, illustrating the wonders of our
universe and there are portable panels on the varied and groundbreaking
work of local astronomy hero A S Eddington. These exhibitions are made
possible by the work and support of the Eddington Astronomical Society
and the Royal Society.

Continuing Professional Development for Teachers
