The Wainwright Society
Alfred Wainwright (1907-1991) is best known for his Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.

From 1942-1985 Alfred Wainwright was Honorary Clerk to Kendal Musuem, labelling and indexing specimens and dealing with administration. Indeed many items in the museum's collections still have labels attached in his handwriting.
The Wainwright Society was founded in 2002 to keep alive the fellwalking traditions that Alfred Wainwright promoted through his publications, and to introduce a wider audience to fellwalking and caring for the hills.
Members of The Wainwright Society receive:
- 3 free newsletters a year
- access to organised walks and events

The Eddington Astronomical Society
The Eddington Astonomical Society meets at Kendal Museum on the first Monday of every month at 7 pm.
Meetings are very informal and are open to everyone, regardless of age or experience. Whether your interest lies in the latest mind-boggling cosmological theories, or whether you simply want to start finding your way around the night sky, you will be made welcome.
As well as talks on space flight and astronomy by members and guest speakers, the meetings feature a round-up of the latest ‘space news’. There is also the chance to get together to observe events such as meteor showers, eclipses and comets.
For more information on the EAS and what there is to see in the Cumbrian sky visit their website - Eddington Astronomical Society.
